Fixed a perfect local dinner tonight....Beef stew. Homegrown onions, carrots, and potatoes, and local beef round steak. Add in a few spices and celery, and cook in the Dutch oven for a couple hours. Then I added Bisquick dumplings and cooked another 15 minutes. I didn't think I really liked dumplings, but these turned out pretty tasty.
Also tried another pie. Used the same pie crust recipe as the peach pie from last week, but cooked it longer and used an aluminum pie tin (read somewhere that helps cook the bottom crust better). This recipe was for Apple Butter Pumpkin pie, but since I didn't have any apple butter left, I used peach butter. Of course, I used some butternut squash for the pumpkin. The crust was really good, and the filling was good but not a keeper. The pie has a crumb topping on it, which makes it Sometimes the good old recipes are the best!
