It seems to me that its quite the odd growing year. I am still picking a few peas, which is really late for them, but my tomatoes are still green. I didn't think I planted too late but it appears to be so. The deer took bites off the tops of every one of my ears of corn, so I don't think I'll have much of a corn crop. Thank goodness for Farmers Market and neighbors like Kay Pingetzer who grow plenty to share!
I got some really great news this week....I am so excited! I received a grant to put up a Hoop House. Technically they are called Seasonal High Tunnels, but that's a mouthful, so Hoop House works for me. They are a rounded, Quonset type structure covered with a tough plastic sheet that lets plenty of sunlight in. They are usually unheated, as opposed to a regular greenhouse. There are 2 advantages to a hoop house...they warm up earlier in the spring and stay frost free longer in the Fall, so they add weeks of growing to our short Wyoming season. But also another advantage is wind protection, and in most areas of Wyoming that is a huge advantage! I will keep you posted on the Great Hoop House Adventure!
