What fresh goodies have you been eating? Here's my list: chives, asparagus, radishes, strawberries, cilantro, mint, and baby bib lettuce. Of course, I could be eating cucumbers and tomatoes from Kasper's Greenhouse, but I haven't made it over to their house yet! Shame on me!
The grandchildren love the strawberries (don't we all!), so I may not have enough for jam. The whole family has been eating the raspberry and the peach jams by the spoon full this year, so will be making plenty of those again.
The whole garden is in, and everything is up, but still small. I've begun my annual war on weeds. Anyone have any tricks? We row irrigate out of the ditch, so it's hard to use very much mulch. Two of my enemy weeds are the creeping violet and milk weeds...I hoe them and 3 new plants spring up! Arrrgh!
So, did anyone guess my green friends in the picture? Of course, they are garlic scape! The flowering part of the garlic I planted last fall. I have never planted garlic so this is all new for me. You can eat these in salads, or cut up and use like garlic cloves. Nice mild garlic flavor.
This blog is for Jack...he called and nagged me to write more!! HAHA gottcha!
